Construction Kick-off – February 4, 2026

Work related to the Centralville Sewer Separation Project has begun as part of the City of Lowell’s long-term effort to improve sewer capacity, reduce flooding, and protect local waterways.

Current Construction Activities

During the next several weeks, the City’s Contractor, Albanese D&S, Inc. will be working in several areas:

  • West Sixth Street at Bunker Hill Avenue
Crews will be excavating test pits to confirm the location of existing utilities.
  • Ludlam Street
    Soil investigations will take place.
  • Willard Street (toward Billings Street)
Crews will continue cleaning and inspecting the existing 48-inch brick sewer using closed-circuit television (CCTV) to evaluate pipe condition.
What to Expect

While some disruption is unavoidable, work will be planned and phased to minimize impacts on residents, businesses, and travelers. Vehicular and pedestrian access will be maintained wherever possible, and temporary traffic adjustments may occur near active work areas. Crews will work to ensure safe passage and reasonable access at all times.

Looking Ahead

This early field work is a necessary first step to support upcoming sewer separation construction, stormwater improvements, and future roadway restoration as the project moves forward.

Additional updates will be shared as work progresses and activities shift to new locations. Residents are encouraged to follow the project Facebook Page and sign up for email updates to receive the most up-to-date information.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as this important infrastructure investment gets underway.
