Upcoming Construction Schedule – Week of
August 17, 2026
2-Week Construction Look-Ahead
Week Beginning August 17, 2026
Weather permitting, construction will continue throughout Centralville as crews make progress on the City’s sewer separation project. This work is part of a long-term effort to reduce flooding, improve the sewer system, and better protect the Merrimack River.
Crews will be working near VFW Parkway and on Bunker Hill Avenue, Kirk Street, and Hildreth Street. Residents may see construction equipment, excavation, temporary traffic controls, and parking restrictions near active work areas.
Where Work is Happening
VFW Parkway Area
Work will continue on the new underground junction chamber and culvert near VFW Parkway. Crews will be excavating, installing supports, and building the concrete chamber, footings, and headwall.
This is one of the project’s largest components and will remain an active work area over the next several weeks.
Bunker Hill Avenue
Crews will continue installing a new culvert and 12-inch sewer pipe on Bunker Hill Avenue between West Sixth Street and Hildreth Street.
Later in the construction period, water and sewer service work is also scheduled between West Sixth Street and Lakeview Avenue.
The 24-hour closure of Bunker Hill Avenue between Lakeview Avenue and West Sixth Street will remain in effect while underground utility work continues. West Sixth Street at Bunker Hill Avenue will also remain closed during active construction.
Kirk Street
Water main installation will continue on Kirk Street as crews work to upgrade the neighborhood’s water infrastructure.
Hildreth Street
Rock drilling will continue on Hildreth Street to prepare for underground pipe installation.
Controlled blasting is expected to begin during the week of August 24th. This work will allow crews to safely break through underground rock. Additional information will be shared with nearby residents as it becomes available.
Crews are also scheduled to begin installing a large, 60-inch reinforced concrete pipe on Hildreth Street during the week of August 24th.
Barker Area
Installation of a 60-inch reinforced concrete pipe is scheduled in the Barker area during the week of August 17th.
Road Closures & Traffic Impacts
Drivers should expect activity near construction areas, including construction vehicles, temporary traffic controls, parking restrictions, and possible short-term detours. Please slow down, follow posted signs, and allow extra travel time when traveling through active work zones. Specific road closure and detour information will be shared as it is confirmed.
City staff and contractors will continue working to maintain safe access for residents, businesses, and emergency services whenever possible.
